Collaborating with the racers themselves, Offenhauser and Goosen began tweaking the design through the later '20s and into the early '30s—including incorporating intake tracts designed for the Miller V-16. When Harry Miller went bankrupt in 1933, Fred Offenhauser had already been running his own machine shop on the side.
